The Flesh Beast

The cold wet taping of rain scared little Adam as it rang in his ears like bells. It was his first week in the Insane Asylum Correctional Facility for boys and girls in the City of Cascade Falls. The Asylum was set up for troubled youngsters who had problems dealing with their feelings. For Adam it was a choice made by his parents who decided it was time for the young boy to become a man and forget about seeing unicorns and fairies. He was only eight years old and on the first day he heard rumors that the institute had a beast that ate children. It came out at night and whispered, “where’s my flesh?” There were no screams to wake up the other children so nothing could be done to save them from this creature known as the Flesh Beast.

Adam couldn’t sleep; his innocent, green eyes were sapped with tears and every time they closed he could hear the beast deep in his mind. Adam remembered exploring the asylum, which was like a castle. He had not played hide and seek on his first day until he met Joey and Jennifer.

Joey; the black haired boy with brown eyes was sent to the Asylum for throwing rocks at people and stealing candy from little girls. Jennifer, the green eyed, red head was in the institute for stealing toys from merchant shops and throwing a dog dong at a teacher. Jennifer got ten strikes across her fingers on her first day for calling the constable a decrepit old hag. Ms. Knealson, the school’s constable was there to teach the children manners. Some of the children that spied on her claimed she spent nights planning which child would be punished more than the other.

Adam rose out of bed after hearing something outside his room. He shared the room with Joey who slept above him on the bunk bed. It seemed every young child had committed sin and all Adam did was believe in unicorns and fairies.

“Adam I hear something,” whispered little Joey.

Adam was silent and wondered what Joey heard that made his voice sound so chilling. Adam didn’t have to wait to long to hear it and when he did hear it the hair on his arms stood up. Sweat began to perspire and his ears began to ring as he waited for the words to pierce the night.

“Where’s my flesh?” the light whisper chimed.

Joey’s eyes were wide as he jumped out of bed. The floor creaked with every step the two boys made towards the entrance of the door to see what it was. Ssccccrrrreeeeaaaattttcchhhhhh! The door warned with the loud noise that came from its old hinges.

“Let’s go back to our beds,” shivered the little boy Adam.

“It’s the Flesh Beast, you're not scared are you?”

“No, of course not,” answered Adam as he shook his head while his lips trembled with fear. The two kids crept outside the door and looked around. The two boys could see shadows in the hallway from the curtains. The wind blew through the open large windows that allowed the moon to shine through with shades of blue.

“I heard stories that the Flesh Beast tears the muscles off the bones and uses your fingers as tooth picks!” said Joey as he turned his head to Adam who raised his eye brows with fear. The two boys could feel goose bumps chill there way to every pore until it pricked their soul.

“Where’s my flesh?” the whisper persisted in an agonizing question as the two boys kept walking towards the shadow on the wall. Both boys looked at the shadow and were unsure as to what it was. It seemed that their creature was right in front of them. “Boo!”

The boys jumped up in a scream and watched Jennifer emerge into the moon light. She was laughing at the boys and mocking them for being scared of a girl. It seemed to Adam that he wouldn’t see the end of being bullied and would be known throughout the asylum as the girly boy.

“Scaredee cats,” she chuckled like a pig.

“If anybody should get their skin ripped off its you!” gasped Joey.

“Where’s my flesh?” whispered another voice. A deep growl echoed into the children’s ears. It was so scary that it sent chills through the boys and turned Jennifer’s prank into silence.

“What was that?” asked Jennifer.

“I’m going to see,” Joey commanded as he slowly walked down the hallway, Jennifer walked with him. Sweat filled his pores as he heard it again. He squinted in the darkness and saw a pair of yellow eyes. A body stepped out of the gloom and into the reflection of the blue moon light.

“Where’s my flesh?”

The loud shriek filled the hallways as Jennifer ran away toward Adam. She could think of nothing better to do than hide under the covers. It snapped its shark like jaws in a jerky bellow to reveal the razor incisors. They moved up and down the jawbone and sounded like a wood splitter.

“Run back to your room!” Joey screamed as he retreated and turned back to see it coming towards him in a run like no other. Its long, greasy, Mohawk like hair and naked gray body made little Joey’s skin crawl. Joey turned his head and screamed as loud as he could while something grabbed his ankle and thrust him on his back.

It kneeled down to him as saliva dripped from its translucent razor sharp teeth. They moved left to right like a chainsaw and echoed throughout his ear drums. Its face blended with the darkness except the yellow eyes that pierced into Joey’s eyes and turned his veins into ice.

“You’re my flesh!” It bellowed and swung its claws into the Joey’s flesh like a piece of meat as Joey let out one last scream. After the Flesh Beast took its last chomp of Joey’s polished white skeleton, it watched and smelled the naughty little girl run straight to Adam’s room. The beast let out a loud snarl and stretched its arms and hands in the air and charged after her. It ran after Jennifer on its four legs like a dog and roared, “where’s my flesh?”

“Run!” she screamed just before the Flesh Beast pulled her back with the end of its claws and ripped off her head. The creature griped the girl’s neck with its mouth and drank Jennifer’s blood while sucking on the neck. The Flesh Beast quickly unpeeled her skin like an orange as blood began to spill on the floor and it devoured the little girl. Adam began crying, “no!” he screamed as he watched the creature chomp on the girl’s head.

It glared at Adam as it tossed pieces of fingers and toes into its mouth. After shivering in his wet pants, Adam ran in his room and slammed the door shut. “Where is my flesh!” It charged and broke through the door.

“Where’s my flesh!” The beast shouted as it walked around the room. It could smell piss under the bed and it bent its knees to pick it up. It looked around under the bed with its yellow eyes as drool fell from its pointed teeth.

“Where’s my flesh?” It kept muttering like a broken record. Then without warning the bed swung up to the ceiling and the Flesh Beast picked up the wet pajamas with its claws and threw them into the hamper. The creature looked around and smelled the air for naughty children, but none were near and looked up to the ceiling to see the bed.

“Where’s my flesh?” It snarled as it picked up the bed embedded in the ceiling and swung it down on the hard floor. The Flesh Beast became tired of looking and decided to turn in for the night. The beast took one last look around before it shut the door and became silent.

Adam popped his head up from the hamper and felt cold and sticky in his wet underpants. He threw the wet pajamas aside and was almost completely out of the hamper when something suddenly grabbed him. Adam looked up to see the sight of horror and screamed his head off before crying.

“Where’s my flesh!” exclaimed the Flesh Beast.

Adam rose out of bed as he gasped for air, it was only a nightmare. Adam hopped out of bed to see the door and bed was fine, but Joey was gone. Adam couldn’t understand it, was it just a nightmare or did he pass through another dimension? Maybe it was nightmare and Joey was downstairs eating. Adam jumped out of bed and changed his clothes to take a bath. After he was finished he went down stairs to eat breakfast.

He sat in his chair and gripped his fork and knife ready to devour his food. Ms. Knealson handed out the plates filled with breakfast and set Adam’s plate down before him. Adam opened the cover and shrieked at the sight of flesh, two hearts and a pair of eyeballs on some pancakes.

The boy left running trying to hold his mouth shut. Ms. Knealson looked at the plate of eggs, bacon, and pancakes with two slabs of butter on top and then at the running boy. Her eyes twinkled yellow as her high heel shoes tapped danced their way to the waste basket where she dumped the plate of food. She sneered while looking at the other children and whispered, “there are still plenty of naughty children that I can feed my pet instead of worrying about the one that got away.” The constable turned away from the garbage and walked past tables of children and into the kitchen where she could hear the constant whispers, where’s my flesh?
